Born to Italian immigrant parents on June 6, 1921 in Jersey City, Brigida Helen Cinotti was graduated Dickinson High School, attended John Marshall Business School, and then worked as an executive secretary for General Foods and Hoffman LaRoche.
At the same time, she earned a BA in Business Administration and MA in Education, both from Seton Hall University.
She became a full-time teacher of business at Snyder High School, Jersey City, in 1954, where she met fellow teacher and future husband Ben Mastronardy.
Bridget Mastronardy transferred to Lincoln Junior High in Secaucus as a guidance counselor, then organized and became head of the guidance department when the school grew into a high school between 1973 and 1977.
“Known as a competent and tough counselor, she pushed her students to reach their potentials,” her obituary says.
She retired while still head of the guidance department in June 1991, it says.
Mastronardy was active in several organizations, including the Hudson County Mental Health Association and the Secaucus Child Guidance Foundation, which she co-founded. She also remained active with Catholic Daughters and Friends of the Secaucus Public Library.
For her volunteerism, Mastronardy received a Woman of Achievement Award.
Predeceased by her husband, Mastronardy is survived by sons James and Linus (wife Judy) and grandson Lucas.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. this Saturday, Feb. 1, at Immaculate Conception Church on Paterson Plank Road in Secaucus, followed by entombment in Holy Cross Cemetery on Ridge Road in North Arlington.
Visiting hours are from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Mack Memorial Home, across the street from the church.
The family asks that donations to Immaculate Conception Church be made in lieu of flowers.
